Shashank joined the Industrial Liaison Group in September 2025 to support industrial clients with their cryo-EM research. As an eBIC for Industry Scientist, he supports the complete cryo-EM workflow from studying design and sample optimisation to data collection and structure solution.
Shashank brings both industry and academic experience to his role, with a strong background in membrane protein biochemistry and cryo-EM. Before his PhD, he worked on bacterial membrane protein construct optimisation and stabilisation for crystallisation. During his PhD at the European Institute of Chemistry and Biology (IECB) in Bordeaux, France, he focused on the cryo-EM of human membrane transporters from the SLC1 family, which are key drug targets.
Following his PhD, Shashank joined the Sample Preparation Competence Team at Thermo Fisher Scientific in Eindhoven, in the Netherlands, as an Application Engineer. Whilst there, he contributed to the development of automated sample preparation robots, providing application feedback, writing SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures), and leading customer demonstrations for next-generation cryo-EM sample preparation robots.
