On behalf of the whole Programme Committee I would like to welcome you to Oxford for the 13th International X-ray Microscopy Conference, XRM2016. The conference is hosted by Diamond Light Source and supported by a range of sponsors and vendor exhibitors.
We have worked with the committees involved to put together a programme showcasing the most recent and interesting results in the field of X-ray microscopy, which we hope you will find stimulating and comprehensive. We have endeavoured to widen the scope of XRM, adding contributions from neighbouring fields within the overview, and additional sessions for large data and in vivo and in situ studies.
The conference is framed by the historic University City of Oxford, in the heart of which our conference venue, the Mathematical Institute, provides us with an architecturally beautiful building and modern facilities. Oxford is a compact city centre, with many historical buildings and places of interest within walking distance of the conference venue, which I hope you will find the time to explore whilst you are with us.
Finally I would like to express my gratitude to all those who have contributed to XRM2016: the International Advisory Committee and the local Scientific Programme Committee for their support and advice, all the speakers for preparing and presenting talks that promise to inspire us, our exhibitors and sponsors for their generous financial support and last but by no means least, the Local Organising Committee for its enthusiastic efforts that have turned this conference into reality.
I also acknowledge with thanks my co-chairs, Liz Duke and Burkhard Kaulich, and our former Physical Sciences Director, Trevor Rayment, for the numerous and helpful discussions regarding the content and details of the conference.
I do hope that you enjoy the full and stimulating programme and take this wonderful opportunity to interact with colleagues and friends and explore Oxford, the “City of Dreaming Spires”.
Professor Christoph Rau
Chair of XRM2016
