Thanks to our partners at Thermo Fisher Scientific, eBIC for Industry has upgraded its capabilities for drug discovery with the installation of a Falcon 4i Direct Electron Detector onto its Glacios screening microscope.
This upgrade will provide enhanced image quality at boosted speeds for companies wishing to screen their grids in person at Diamond or remotely by mailing in their samples.
Taking advantage of developments in Thermo Fisher's data acquisition software (EPU) and Diamond Light Source’s on-demand processing pipelines, the new fully integrated camera will provide a massive reduction in the time to reach actionable insights from data collected on the Glacios.
The newly acquired ability to collect near-atomic resolution datasets from real-world samples overnight on the Glacios is a game-changer for our clients and will afford them a big reduction in the risk of committing to more expensive Krios time.
In addition to requiring less data to reach similar resolutions, the improved DQE (which effectively measures how faithfully a detector records a signal) of the camera will also make it possible to investigate smaller proteins and untangle dynamic states during screening.
