Blocking the process of apoptosis (which results in cell death) is a way in which cancer cells are able to survive and proliferate. Inhibitors of key pro-survival proteins (of which BCL-2, BCL-xL, MCL-1 have been identified as key targets) have long been recognised as providing an effective therapeutic approach to eliminate cancer cells.
In a study using Macromolecular Crystallography at Diamond, a team of researchers from Vernalis explore the effect of core replacement on S64315, a selective MCL-1 inhibitor.
