B e a part of the world-changing science at the UK’s national synchrotron. Diamond Light Source is one of the most advanced scientific facilities in the world. It houses the country’s synchrotron light source, a giant microscope that can produce beams of light 10 billion times brighter than the sun, which can probe the structure and composition of matter. To continue delivering this world-changing science, the synchrotron will soon be undergoing an upgrade, called Diamond-II. This project will deliver a new machine and new beamlines along with a comprehensive series of upgrades to many working areas. Our mechanical, electrical and electronic engineers and technicians work on the design, development, construction, installation and operations of the machine. Computing at Diamond covers a vast array of hardware and software activities. It is pivotal to how we deliver science from control systems to the creation of innovative software to make it easier for researchers to manipulate and analyse results from their experiments. We also offer graduate opportunities , typically in engineering and software, as well as positions for undergraduates as summer students and year in industry placements to gain valuable paid work experience.
