It houses the country’s synchrotron light source, a giant microscope that can produce beams of light 10 billion times brighter than the sun, which can probe the structure and composition of matter. To continue delivering this world-changing science, the synchrotron will soon be undergoing an upgrade, called Diamond-II. This project will deliver a new machine and new beamlines along with a comprehensive series of upgrades to many working areas. Our mechanical, electrical and electronic engineers and technicians work on the design, development, construction, installation and operations of the machine.
