Many of the experimental stations (beamlines) at Diamond are well suited to addressing environmental questions. With powerful X-rays you can see metal corrosion as it forms, devise new materials based on earthworm poo which, it turns out, has a lot to teach us about producing stable amorphous calcium carbonate and image how captured CO2 from power stations behaves when injected into the conditions you would find several kilometres underground. Learn more about this important area of research from the scientists who bring their novel experiments to the synchrotron.
Diamond Light Source is the UK's national synchrotron science facility, located at the Harwell Science and Innovation Campus in Oxfordshire.
