I08 has extended its portfolio with a new instrument for soft X-ray ptychography (I08-1). When submitting proposals for I08 the award will be given for that instrument with a view to beamline staff determining which of the two instruments will be the optimal choice for a given experiment. Additionally, an I08-1 commissioning call will be opened in October 2021 for the period Jan-Mar 2022. Please contact the I08 PBS, or the User office for general enquiries.

Standard peer review proposals will be accepted for I08-1 for AP31 (April - September 2022) with deadline on 6th October. All beamtime applications have to be addressed to I08 with identifying 'ptychography' as technique in the proposal and the I08 nstruments questionnare. It is mandatory that you contact I08 BL staff and discuss the technical feasibility of your proposal prior to submission.
We will maintain the current rapid access route to I08-1 (J08). Rapid access proposals are reviewed Diamond internally. Such proposals are typically limited to 6 shifts (2 days) and should be used for feasibility studies or for completing data sets from previous experiments. You are hghly recommended to submit any applications to I08. For further instructions to submit access proposals, please visit the Diamond UAS pages or contact the I08 PBS.
An I08-1 commissioning call will be advertised in October 2021 for experiments during January to April 2022. Please check available imaging modes or contact the I08 PBS.
Diamond is running sessions over a normal 6-day week, which can be remote or by mail-in, or with a limited number of users being able to visit Diamond to conduct their experiments (up to two per instrument at any time) depending on the pandemic. Working conditions at Diamond are continuously subject to review and potential change. It is foreseen that with the easing of pandemic conditions in the UK, Diamond should be able to open to additional numbers of users in the future, and so for this next AP31 call we are assuming we will be back to normal operations. With regard to current open proposals, if you have not had time scheduled you should resubmit, but please contact the PBS if in doubt, as the situation is still very uncertain.
Users from European organisations continue to be welcome to submit proposals to Diamond. The same funding policy and procedure for expenses continue to be in place for any visit to Diamond as was in place before Brexit. You can find the Diamond expenses procedure here.
Please follow instructions on Diamond web pages and the UAS, and consult BL staff before submitting proposals.
