It is strongly recommendable to download the more updated version of the NoMachine software.
Scientific computing department is always providing upgrades into Diamond's network, hence affecting the remote connections to Linux workstations. If the NoMachine connection is failing, trying to reconnect at the following days is a good strategy. Should the problem persist, please contact the User Office to report the issue.
A comprehensive step-by-step guide on how to stablish this connection is available at Confluence, which should be accessible using your FedID credentials. Alternatively, please download our up to date guideline on how to stablish this connection.
In the top-left corner of the desktop, click in the red hat symbol and then select the “terminal” option in the left-hand side menu. Once it pops out, please type the two command-lines shown below to automatically setup the connection:
Also using the “red-hat” button, you can type ‘tweaks’ in the searching bar to setup the display options of the Linux desktop.
In 'Extensions' (left hand-side menu):
- A 'Windows List' can be activated with the button at the right, allowing you to minimise programs/files folders as done normally in Windows.
- Selecting the gear symbol at the right of 'Workspace buttons', activate the 'Click to activate workspaces' option and select the 'Panel region to put the buttons in' to the Right.
- Selecting the gear symbol at the right of 'Workspace grid', change the number of rows to 1 and the number of columns to 4.
For additional display options (i.e. fitting the window to the size of your screen), scroll the mouse over the top right corner of the screen, where a bending corner will appear. Clicking that bending area will open a different menu for controlling these and also for ending the remote connection when finished.
