About the Beamline

The I08 Scanning X-ray microscopy beamline is part Diamond’s Imaging and Microscopy Group and covers the soft and tender X-ray photon energy range and is therefore optimised for the analysis of organic and inorganic matter on nanoscopic and microscopic scales.

The beamline attracts experimenters from a broad range of scientific areas including biogeochemistry, earth and environmental science, biology, planetary science, materials science and energy research.

The beamline consists of two end-stations:

  • I08 dedicated to conventional scanning X-ray microscopy
  • I08-1 optimised for soft X-ray ptychography

Both instruments offer spectromicroscopic modalities as NEXAFS/ XANES and micro-XRF.

About the Event

This 2-hour webinar is dedicated to all scientists with any level of expertise in scanning X-ray microscopy. During the event a series of presentations will showcase the capabilities and potential of the two beamline instruments and examples of experiments performed on I08 and i08-1 will be demonstrated.

The webinar will be delivered in two parts.

  • During the first part: the beamline staff will present the I08 instrument for conventional scanning X-ray microscopy and the new I08-1 instrument optimised for ptychography experiments.
  • During the second part: the beamline staff will be available for an extended Q&A focusing on proposal writing, experiments design, sample preparation and data analysis.
