About DIAD

The DIAD beamline at Diamond Light Source is a new dual-beam instrument for quasi-simultaneous full-field imaging and powder diffraction. DIAD enables its users to visualise internal structures (in 2- and 3D) as well as identify and measure compositional and strain changes. DIAD enables in-situ and in-operando experiments that require spatially correlated results from both X-ray Computed Tomography and X-ray Powder Diffraction.

About the Event

This 2-hour webinar is directed at post-doctoral researchers, established scientists, and academics in the fields of Material Science, Bioengineering, Geophysics, and Energy Storage.

The webinar will be delivered in two parts.

  • During the first part: speakers will provide a brief introduction to the capabilities of DIAD and present recent successful experiments at the beamline showcasing the power of correlative imaging and diffraction.
  • During the second part: the DIAD beamline scientists will be available for questions, group discussion and advice on beamtime proposal writing.

The time of this webinar (27th July 2022) have been defined specifically to help future users with their beamtime application for the next useful allocation period.

  • AP33 call for proposal opens: 1st week of September 2022
  • AP33 call for proposal closes: 30th of September 2022
  • AP33 beamtime: April 2023 – September 2023

Agenda

Please note the agenda timings are in BST (UK time zone).

Speakers

Dr. Andrew James
Research: Metallic material, corrosion, diffraction techniques
Andrew specialises in the use of X-ray powder diffraction for quantifying phase/strain changes in materials.

Dr. Hans Deyhle
Research: Biomaterials (bone, teeth, implants), computational imaging
Hans is an expert in the imaging of hard biological tissue utilising the latest in phase-contrast and ptychography techniques

Dr. Sharif Ahmed
Research: Dynamics in porous/granular media, image segmentation
Sharif develops automated workflows that aim to reduce the effort required to process, analyse and interpret image data by combining classic algorithms and neural networks.
