CONEXS Workshop 2022

Mar 28. till Mar 30.

CONEXS Workshop 2022

The CONEXS Workshop 2022 will be an in-person event hosted by Newcastle University, UK, on the 28-30 March 2022. The workshop will train PhDs and PDRAs (especially experimentalists) in the theory of X-ray spectroscopy and how to simulate/interpret their spectra, with a focus on FEFF and Quantum ESPRESSO. The workshop will be a mix of lectures and practical exercises, the lectures will be recorded and made available on the CONEXS website following the event.
The workshop is free to attend and accommodation and all meals will be provided.

Workshop scope

The workshop will be led by:

Joshua Kas - Research Assistant Professor, University of Washington

Matteo Calandra - Full Professor, University of Trento

FEFF is a software program used in x-ray absorption spectroscopy. It contains self-consistent real space multiple-scattering code for simultaneous calculations of x-ray-absorption spectra and electronic structure. Output includes extended x-ray-absorption fine structure (EXAFS), full multiple scattering calculations of various x-ray absorption spectra (XAS) and projected local densities of states (LDOS). The spectra include x-ray absorption near edge structure (XANES), x-ray natural circular dichroism (XNCD), and non-resonant x-ray emission spectra.

Quantum ESPRESSO is an integrated suite of Open-Source computer codes for electronic-structure calculations and materials modeling at the nanoscale. It is based on density-functional theory, plane waves, and pseudopotentials.

How to apply
