A two-day workshop for I19 users to gain hands-on experience of the techniques involved in mounting and storing samples for shipment, and to gain familiarity of the procedures involved in operating the beamline remotely.

Overview

The upgraded end-station for EH1 of Beamline I19 at Diamond Light Source has been operational for over three years. During this time, we have been developing procedures for the use of the robotic sample changer to allow remote operation of the end-station, where users ship pre-mounted samples to Diamond and, subsequently, run their data collections from home. This new mode of operation has been found to be highly successful and we are now encouraging all users of I19 EH1 to consider remote access as an option to allow them more regular access over periods of individual shifts.

The aim of this workshop is to provide hands-on experience of the techniques involved in mounting and storing samples in preparation to be shipped to Diamond and to gain familiarity of the procedures involved in operating the beamline remotely.

Day one will be a mixture of talks and sessions providing practical hands-on experience in preparing samples for shipment. Day two will be held away from the beamline and will provide the opportunity to access the end-station remotely and conduct sample exchanges and data collection.

Applications for the I19 Remote Access Training workshop 2019 are now CLOSED.

Please note that places on this workshop are limited to 22. In the case of oversubscription there will be a limit of 2 attendees per research group/proposal group.

Attendance, accommodation and transport

Attendance at this workshop is free of charge.

All meals and refreshments will be provided for the duration of the workshop. 

One nights accommodation (on the 15th of October) will also be provided upon request. Accommodation will be arranged at a local hotel, and all the transfers from Diamond to the hotel will be arranged. 

All attendees are required to cover the cost of their travel to and from Diamond.
