SR Powder Diffraction Data Analysis Workshop

A one day workshop was be held to cover data analysis using software programs for synchrotron X-ray powder diffraction (SXPD) experiments.

Date

Location
Diamond Light Source, Oxfordshire, UK

Organisers: Julia Parker, Steve Thompson, Paul Adamson and Chiu Tang

A one day workshop was be held to cover data analysis using software programs for synchrotron X-ray powder diffraction (SXPD) experiments. The programme was aimed at beginners in SXPD, i.e. PhD students and postdocs who have either just started SXPD based projects, or will be using SXPD as part of their research work. Talks on powder diffraction and synchrotron facilities were given by invited academic speakers and beamline staff. Potential topics to be included were: data matching for phase identification, profile fitting to obtained crystallographic details, fundamental parameters approach to extract mechanical information (particle size and strain), Rietveld analysis to refine structural solutions. A practical session tutored by beamline scientists was also held on how to set up input parameters and run refinements using TOPAS and GSAS.
