Beamline I12-JEEP is designed for unique experiments which use complex sample environments and bespoke configurations of the beamline equipment. The beamline can accept a wide variety of user-owned sample equipment and environments. During many years of operation, we have identified the most common support gear needed to install this equipment and perform cutting-edge scientific experiments.
During this summer placement, you will design several of these support parts to aid the quick and robust installation of scientific equipment on the beamline. These support gear will be manufactured at Diamond in an advanced mechanical workshop according to your drawings, and you will have the opportunity to participate in their delivery and installation at the beamline. You will be working alongside highly-trained mechanical engineers, machinists, technicians and science staff. You will learn to prepare high-standard designs for mechanical parts, including stages such as planning, risk assessing and preparation of engineering drawings. Your hardware will contribute to the safe and efficient execution of complex scientific experiments across many disciplines.
Please apply via our online application portal. The vacancy that you are applying for is the "Summer Placements 2022" listing, you will then have the opportunity to select up to three projects to apply for. This project's reference is 22011SP.
Applications are now closed with interviews scheduled for 7, 8, 9 and 10 February 2022.
If you are disabled and would like to be considered under the Guaranteed Interview Scheme, please let us know via the online application process.
