Job Description

• Responsible for delivering and maintaining appropriate detectors for all beamlines within the available budget and timescale required
• Be responsible for the smooth and reliable operation of detectors on beamlines
• Manage the provision of spare detectors such that beamlines remain operational in the event of detector failure
• Provide advice within Diamond on detectors
• Manage and participate in the detector development programme
• Development and operation of the offline detector laboratories
• Manage the detector team and budget
• Establish and maintain links with detector groups at other synchrotrons and related institutions
• Participate in collaborative national and international detector development programmes; providing leadership wherever possible

Qualification & Experience - Essential

• Ability and initiative to get to the heart of the problem and take it effectively through to completion
• Good interpersonal and presentational skills
• Ability to interact effectively with staff at all levels
• Self motivated
• Must be available to travel occasionally in UK and overseas including overnight absences
• Understanding of the principles of the interaction of radiation with matter
• Relevant synchrotron research experience
• Experience in radiation detection.
• Project management experience
• Degree in physics or electronic engineering.
• Higher degree (e.g. MSc, PhD) in a relevant field
• Ability to manage a small team
• A proven track record of research in an appropriate field of synchrotron radiation science related to detector science
