Job Description

Diamond is seeking to recruit a hands-on, technically experienced individual to join an existing team. The team works a 24 hour, 7 day shift pattern (3 shifts Mon-Fri, 2 shifts Sat/Sun) which involves night and weekend shifts on a rota.

The role is being offered at two levels (Coordinator and Senior Coordinator) dependent upon skills and experience.

The main duties of this role will be to provide technically based support to scientists, visitors and users of the Diamond Synchrotron, undertaking fault diagnosis & resolution and providing comprehensive support for remote access experiments.

You will also monitor activities within the Experimental hall to ensure compliance with company Safety and statutory requirements, undertake the duties of a Radiation Protection Supervisor and act as a Diamond Emergency Controller responding to safety alarms and incidents.

Successful candidates for both levels will have proven experience in working within a Technical / Science environment as well as the following areas: handling of hazardous chemicals, specialist gases and gas systems/equipment and the use of cryogens (including pressurised dewars).  The ability to operate and maintain standard laboratory equipment, and carry out general electronic and engineering tasks and use general workshop equipment is essential. For the Senior role we would expect that the successful candidate has considerable experience of working in a Synchrotron environment or  in a technical/technician role in addition to the above skills.

You should be highly motivated and able to work under your own initiative with excellent communication and IT skills. There is a strong emphasis on Health and Safety so familiarity of risk assessments, COSHH and legislation along with safety qualifications would be desirable but not essential.
