Job Description

Diamond Light Source is the UK’s national synchrotron science facility. Located on the Harwell Science & Innovation Campus in Oxfordshire a 20 minute drive south of Oxford in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Diamond Light Source conducts world-class research in virtually all fields of science and offers rewarding career opportunities covering both technical and scientific disciplines.

We are seeking an experienced marketing professional with a scientific background to join our Industrial Liaison Group to develop and deliver communications to our industrial users and prospects.  You will be involved in writing for trade publications, hosting events both at Diamond and externally, social media activity and producing marketing collateral. As part of a multi disciplinary team you will be based in the Industrial Liaison Group but will also work with colleagues across Diamond.  Ideally you should have experience of working in a commercial environment.

To promote the capabilities of Diamond to prospective industrial users with the overall aim of diversifying and enhancing the client portfolio.

  • Develop and deliver marketing material showcasing the industrial applications of Diamond across a wide range of industrial sectors.  Co-ordinate Diamond staff, users, press offices and management representatives from companies and universities to deliver a high quality product.
  • Identify and follow up opportunities for promoting Diamond’s capabilities to potential industrial users.
  • Manage the organisation of Diamond-hosted  events by:
  1. Producing and implementing a marketing campaign for each event;
  2. Creating web interfaces and registration systems for the events;
  3. Preparing costings, monitoring budgets and reporting on spend;
  4. Co-ordinating the production of conference literature as required.
  • Manage the Industrial Liaison presence at external events by:
  1. Preparing costings, monitoring budgets and reporting on spend;
  2. Co-ordinating the production of conference literature and branded giveaways as required;
  3. Attending said events, manning exhibition stands as required;
  4. Following up on business leads by identifying sales opportunities.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of a social media strategy for industrial engagement, including:
  1. Developing content for the Industrial Liaison website aiming at both technical and non-technical audiences;
  2. Keeping up-to-date the Industrial Liaison feeds on LinkedIn and Twitter.
  • Write and coordinate technical coverage in the trade press for key market sectors.

Qualification & Experience - Essential

  • First degree in a scientific field;
  • Experience with Windows/Linux/Unix;
  • Experience of producing marketing collateral;
  • Experience of working in a scientific environment;
  • Good interpersonal, communication and presentational skills;
  • Ability to interact with staff and facility users at all levels;
  • Ability to work flexibly with occasional weekend and out-of hours working;
  • Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team;
  • Self-motivation;
  • Must be able to travel occasionally within the UK and abroad, including overnight absences.

Qualification & Experience - Desirable

  • Experience or knowledge of synchrotron radiation;
  • Experience of event management;
  • Experience of working in a commercial environment;
  • Experience of website systems.
