On receipt of your proposal for peer-reviewed access Diamond initiates a process of assessment.
Carried out by the relevant Principal Beamline Scientist (PBS). This is a technical feasibility of the proposed experiment on the beamline. PBSs do not input into the science assessment of the proposal and do not sit on the peer review panel.
An initial safety assessment is carried out by the Health and Safety team who will classify the experiment as one of the following:
If the proposal is successful in obtaining beamtime, the experiment will be graded again after completion of a full Experimental Risk Assessment. This process is initiated by the User Office.
Conducted by external peer review panel.
The external peer review panel will assess all proposals approximately 6-8 weeks after the call deadline. Their recommendations are passed to the Diamond Light Source management who make the final decision.
The Peer Review Process document provides guidance to the Principal Beamline Scientists, Safety, Health and
Environment team and Panel Members for the Diamond peer review meetings.
