The synergy of electron microscopy with photon-based techniques underpins the strategy for the new facility. The addition of cryo-electron microscopy will ensure that Diamond becomes a centre for high-resolution imaging in the UK. The synergism will also extend to software development, and there are useful overlaps in other areas such as sample preparation and labelling, detectors, phase plates and corrector lenses.
Diamond Light Source is the UK's national synchrotron science facility, located at the Harwell Science and Innovation Campus in Oxfordshire.
