Recent MX highlights include:
Macromolecular crystallography is a powerful method for studying the interaction between a ligand and its target. The level of automation of the MX environment at Diamond alllows users to go through hundreds of samples in a single synchrotron visit. Rapid feedback about the presence of a ligand is therefore crucial for prioritising and focusing data collection. To address this issue, a DIfference Map PipeLinE (DIMPLE) has been developed through a collaboration between CCP4 and Diamond Light Source. Our automated pipeline calculates a difference electron density map and assists in the determination of the ligand in a very short time frame. Read more here...
To address the need for a clear, concise and easy to use graphical user interface, Diamond's Data Acquisition team have been hard at work developing a new version of GDA to improve the synchrotron user experience. While keeping the advantages of the previous GDA software, the new client also provides new features such as an easy editing of data collection parameters, viewing of diffraction images and improved grid scan and line scan. Scientists from Heptares Therapeutics recently used Diamond's microfocus MX beamline, I24, to determine the structure of a class B GPCR corticotropin-releasing factor receptor 1, a key regulator of the stress response. This major breakthrough paves the way to the discovery and development of new drugs targeting depression, anxiety, diabetes and osteoporosis. Read more here...
