We are very pleased to welcome Frank von Delft as Principal Beamline Scientist on I04-1 and Stuart Fisher as Beamline Scientist on I03.
Precise crystal alignment in the X-ray beam is a critical step prior to data collection. Whether focusing on invisible crystals in solvated loops, microcrystals on mesh loops or selection of the best diffracting part of disordered crystals, locating crystalline material can be a real challenge. To make this job easier, a raster-scanning method combining the use of X-rays and rapid image processing has been developed. Read more here...
Complete and highly redundant datasets to a good resolution may be difficult to collect on radiation sensitive crystals or during a room temperature oscillation experiment. To mitigate this problem, the X-ray dose may be spread over a larger volume of the crystal by collecting diffraction images at multiple positions along a specified axis. Read more here...
Challenging projects such as radiation sensitive crystals, membrane proteins or viral structures often require collection of small wedges of data from multiple crystals. Developed at Diamond, BLEND is a new software package designed to manage merging and scaling of such data. Read more here...
