Early Career Research Prize Terms and Conditions
 
  1. Diamond Light Source Ltd of Diamond House, Harwell Science and Innovation Campus, Didcot, Oxfordshire, OX11 0DE (“Diamond”) and Infineum UK Ltd of Milton Hill Business and Technology Centre, Abingdon, Oxfordshire, OX13 6BB (“Infineum”) shall be awarding a prize to an early career researcher who is judged to have produced the best piece of work using the Diamond facilities in a research area relevant to the automotive sector.
  2. The competition is open to all PhD students, post-doctoral researchers or other early career researchers who have carried out research using the Diamond facilities in an area relevant to the automotive sector, provided they are not employees of Diamond or Infineum at any stage during the course of this competition.   At the closing date for entries, entrants should typically have less than 5 years of research experience following completion of their undergraduate degree. 
  3. The competition is free to enter and only one entry per person is permitted. 
  4.  All entries must be submitted by email to industry@diamond.ac.uk. The email must clearly state that the entry is for the Early Career Research Prize and must include an abstract (not exceeding 500 words) of the research carried out by the entrant at Diamond, together with a supporting letter from the entrant’s supervisor. The research submitted must be original and substantially the entrant’s own. It is the entrant’s responsibility to obtain, in advance of submission, any and all permissions needed to submit the research (or the information contained within it), and to ensure that submission does not impact any intellectual property protection for aspects of the submitted research.
  5.  The opening time and date for entries is opening time and date for entries is 08:00 on 1 July 2015. The closing time and date for entries is 17:00 on 30 September 2015. Entries received after the closing date and time will not be considered.
  6. Competition entries will be judged, and a winner will be selected, by the iCAR 2015 Organising Committee, with the winner being that person judged to have produced the best piece of work using the Diamond facilities in a research area relevant to the automotive sector.
  7. In entering the competition, the entrant confirms that he/she is eligible to do so and eligible to claim any prize that he/she may win.
  8. The winner will be selected in October 2015 and will receive an invitation to present their work at the iCAR 2015 meeting on 4/5 November 2015. The winner will also receive a cash prize in the amount of £250.
  9. The winner will be notified by email (using the email address provided at entry) before 15 October 2015 and must provide a postal address and bank account details in order to claim their prize. If the winner does not respond to Diamond within 7 days of being notified by Diamond, then the winner's prize will be forfeited and Diamond will be entitled to select another winner. Unsuccessful entrants will not be notified.
  10. The invitation to present his/her work at the iCAR 2015 will be sent to the winner by email and the cash prize will be transferred to the winner within 30 days of receipt of the winner’s bank account details.
  11. The prize for the winner is non-exchangeable, non-transferable and no alternative is offered.
  12. The winner's name and country (or county if a UK resident) can be obtained by requesting these details in an email to industry@diamond.ac.uk within 7 days of the closing date of the competition.
  13. Diamond’s decision (acting through the iCAR 2015 Organising Committee where appropriate) regarding any aspect of the competition is final and binding and no correspondence will be entered into about it.
  14. Participants are deemed to have accepted and agreed to be bound by these terms and conditions upon entry. A copy of the terms and conditions can be viewed at www.diamond.ac.uk/iCAR. Diamond and Infineum reserve the right to refuse entry, or refuse to award the prize to anyone in breach of the terms and conditions.
  15. Neither Diamond nor Infineum accept any responsibility for entries not successfully completed due to a technical fault (including, but not limited to technical malfunction, computer hardware or software failure, satellite, network or server failure) of any kind.
  16. Diamond and Infineum reserve the right to hold void, cancel, suspend, or amend the competition where it becomes necessary to do so.
  17. Insofar as is permitted by law, neither Diamond nor Infineum will in any circumstances be responsible or liable to compensate the winner or accept any liability for any loss, damage, personal injury or death occurring as a result of taking up the prize except where it is caused by the negligence of Diamond, Infineum or their employees.   The entrant’s statutory rights are not affected by this provision.
  18. Personal data supplied by an entrant during the course of the competition may be used to notify the entrant about services offered by Diamond, including workshops, announcements and newsletters. Personal data will only be passed on to Infineum and third parties in accordance with the Data Protection Act, 1998 and as may be required for fulfilment/delivery/arrangement of the prize or for any other reasonable and related competition purpose. The winner may be required to participate in publicity related to the competition which may include the publication of his/her name and photograph in any media.
  19. The competition will be governed by English law and entrants to the competition submit to the jurisdiction of the English courts.
