Prestigious biochemical medal awarded to Prof. Dame Louise Johnson
Congratulations to Diamond Fellow, and former Life Sciences Director, Prof. Dame Louise Johnson for receiving the prestigious Novartis Medal and Prize; awarded by the Biochemical Society in recognition of her outstanding contributions to the development of biochemistry.
The Novartis Medal was originally donated to the society in 1964 by the Ciba Laboratories, Horsham (later the Ciba-Geigy Pharmaceuticals Division and now Novartis), and is awarded annually, with the recipient giving a lecture about their research.
During the Biochemical Society’s meeting in Cambridge last month (Jan 09) Louise, who is also a Professor Emeritus at the University of Oxford, gave a lecture entitled ‘The regulation of protein phosphorylation’ – detailing her research into one of the most common modes of regulation of protein function.
