Diamond welcomes today’s news that the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) is investing £12.9 million in the UK Catalysis Hub. Catalysis science is critical for the country’s chemical, energy, pharmaceutical, food, personal care and materials sectors. Researchers working on the next generation of catalysts are increasing utilising the world-class experimental facilities available at Diamond and this new Hub is located next to the synchrotron at the Research Complex at Harwell (RCaH).
Prof Trevor Rayment, Diamond’s Physical Sciences Director, comments, “This is a strategic investment which will bring together scientists and chemical engineers from across the UK to collaborate in a new way in order to pursue world-class projects that are vital for the UK economy. Research groups from Cardiff, UCL and Queen’s University Belfast, all of whom have co-project leaders on the Hub programme, regularly use Diamond and collaborate with our scientists. We are very keen to help more research groups working in areas such as clean energy production, environmental remediation and product synthesis to exploit the wide range of experimental techniques on the Harwell Campus that are available to drive these research areas forward. The UK Catalysis Hub will facilitate this and should lead to an acceleration of developments in catalysis science.”
