Access modes

Diamond will offer a range of different modes of beamtime allocation to ensure the various needs of Users can be met.

  • Direct - To provide regular access to individuals or groups. Beamtime allocation is in two periods of six months starting October and March. Users can submit proposals twice a year with proposal deadline dates on 1 April & 1 October.
  • Programme - To provide access for a period of up to two years. Two calls for proposals per year with a deadline of 1 April and 1 October.
  • Rapid - To provide quick access to the beamlines, electronic review of applications by peer review members will enable scheduling decisions to be made within 6-8 weeks. This mode is currently available for MX, I11 and I19.
  • Commissioning - A "Commissioning Call" rather than the general call for proposals will be used for the new beamlines coming online later this year since it will be the most effective method of optimising new beamlines
