Surfaces, Interfaces & Symmetry

The workshop is dedicated to symmetry and symmetry breaking in two-dimensional systems such as surfaces and interfaces. Symmetry manifests itself in the electronic structure as well as in geometry of systems, both of which will be covered. A particular focus is on topics that have been in the spotlight of scientific interest recently including magnetism of thin films, topological insulators, 2D semiconductors, and chiral surfaces.

The selection of invited talk aims at presenting an overview over synchrotron-based experiments studying such phenomena as well as stimulating interest in systems which are not commonly studied by synchrotron methods.
