Lab 51 is a wet chemistry laboratory dedicated to the I07 beamline allowing visiting researchers to prepare for their experiments. More advanced sample preparation techniques are also possible using central chemistry and biology laboratories.
Relevant equipment available in Lab 51 for sample preparation and characterisation is listed on this page.
Nima Langmuir troughs
- Two troughs, ~ 700 mm and 300 mm in length
- Dipper for collecting Langmuir film on substrates
- Can be mounted on the ellipsometer (see below)
- Smaller trough has inlet for connection to Lauda water bath for temperature control
Nanofilm imaging spectroscopic ellipsometer
- Supports nulling ellipsometry, imaging ellipsometry and brewster angle microscopy
- Lamp box to enable spectroscopic ellipsometry
- Langmuir troughs can be mounted on the instrument
- Active anti-vibration system
Kruss drop shape analysis tensiometer
- Measurements of the surface tension of pendant drops
- Contact angle measurements (inc. advancing or receeding contact angle)
- Calculation of the surface energy of a solid
Laurell spin coater
- 216 mm diameter bowl-shaped process chamber
- Accommodates up to 150 mm diameter or 102 X 102 mm square substrates
- Maximum speed: 6000 RPM
