Diamond Light Source is the UK’s national synchrotron producing intensely bright light, with which scientists can study anything from fossils and jet engines to viruses and vaccines.
Working together is fundamental to research in order to drive science further, delivering more breakthroughs influencing our lives from helath to technology and the environment. Diamond is proud to be a member of the following international initiatives - LEAPS and lightsources.org amongst many others, as well as supporting the Together Science Can initiative.
LEAPS is a strategic consortium initiated by the Directors of the Synchrotron Radiation and Free Electron Laser (FEL) user facilities in Europe. Its primary goal is to actively and constructively ensure and promote the quality and impact of the fundamental, applied and industrial research carried out at their respective facility to the greater benefit of European science and society.
The collaboration offers a step change in European cooperation, uniting 16 organisations representing 19 facilities through a common vision of enabling scientific excellence solving global challenges, and boosting European competitiveness and integration. This will be achieved through a common sustainable strategy developed in consultation with all stakeholders, including national policy makers, user communities and the European
LEAPS will use the power of its combined voice to ensure that member light
source facilities continue to be world-leading, to act as a powerful tool for the
development and integration of skills with a view to address 21st century global challenges, and to consolidate Europe’s leadership in the field.

Lightsources.org is the result of collaboration between communicators from light source facilities around the world. This site is a global resource, providing information and updates about light sources research and achievements, and opportunities for careers and international collaboration.
This is made possible by financial support from the member facilities listed here, whose subscriptions enable further promotion and international coverage of their innovations and capabilities.
Lightsources.org creates one voice for the field ensuring our members facilities are well positioned for funding, access, and research, to make use of each facility’s unique capabilities, and enhance the effectiveness of the science carried out.

Together Science Can is a global campaign to unite researchers and institutes around the world to protect vital international scientific collaboration.
Collaboration makes science work better and faster. Solving complex problems, such as epidemics, the growing burden of dementia and climate change, relies on the best ideas, wherever they come from. International collaboration is central to science and innovation, and researchers accomplish more when working together. But world events threaten the environments within which collaboration thrives, creating an uncertain future for researchers. That’s where Together Science Can comes in, by providing a place for researchers and organisations to tell their stories about what they can achieve through partnership.
