About Diamond | Vision & Mission Statement

Throughout its lifetime, Diamond endeavours to be a leading edge facility for scientific research, supporting a wide range of users from both academia and industry, thereby delivering benefits to the UK society and economy.

Diamond will strive to respond to the 21st century scientific challenges through the successful management of the facility, the high quality science it delivers and encourage its wide dissemination.
 
Strategic priorities

As a national institute, driving scientific research in the UK for the coming decades, Diamond’s activities are based on the following strategic priorities:
  • To maintain its status as world-class by ensuring the synchrotron machine and beamlines remain state-of-the-art enabling a wide community of users to research the structure of the world around us in fields such as medicine, life sciences, the environment, materials and engineering science, physics, chemistry and heritage science;
     
  • To ensure that the Phase III proposed funding makes the most of the investment in the facility made in Phases I and II by fully exploiting the facility’s potential, and that these additional beamlines are state-of-the-art, meeting the needs and aspirations of the user community;
     
  • To engage with Industry to provide them with R&D facilities and expand the impact of Diamond;
     
  • To disseminate knowledge generated at Diamond in areas such as health and well being, energy, nanoscience, security, the environment, the digital economy;
     
  • To develop our people, partnerships and networks of users to fully maximise the impact of the facility;
     
  • To engage society and inspire the young through our work.
