The next Inside Diamond open day will feature stalls and activities, a short introduction to Diamond and a tour of the machine. We expect the visit will last around two and a half hours. Booking for open days opens 6-8 weeks in advance of the event. Click here for more details.
The Diamond Light Source Data Acquisition platform is Scientific Software written in Java used to conduct experiments at the facility. It also makes use of Jython language to provide Python scripting support, which allows scientists to create custom measurement scripts for their experiments. Though this delivers standard Python functionality, many scientific libraries which depend on Python’s C Extension mechanism are not currently supported, however in recent years the open source JyNI Jython Extension project has started to address this issue by mimicking the required functionality . This has allowed Python libraries such as Numpy and Scipy to be supported to a large degree in Jython, but there is still work to do. The ability to use these well known libraries fully would be very beneficial to Diamond's Data Acquisition platform and would simplify its use for many scientists who use them every day.
