eBIC (electron Bio-Imaging Centre) at Diamond Light Source provides scientists with state-of-the-art experimental equipment and expertise in the field of cryo-electron microscopy, for single particle analysis and cryo-tomography. Funded by the Wellcome Trust with the UK Medical Research and Biotechnology and Biology Research Councils, eBIC is a UK National Centre for cryo-electron microscopy in the life sciences and is currently the largest centre of its kind worldwide. We are seeking to recruit a Centre Coordinator to join the growing eBIC team. The post holder will coordinate logistics and activities of eBIC with other projects, departments and staff to ensure optimum efficiency and compliance with appropriate policies, procedures and specifications; assist the eBIC Director in the general organisation and budgeting as well as reporting on eBIC activities and preparation of proposals for funding from outside sponsors. The post holder will also coordinate the user program and eBIC events, produce documentation (e.g. manuals, webpages, social media) and help with manuscripts to support eBIC research activities, provide assistance and information to staff and outside organizations regarding eBIC services, research and projects; act as point of contact for eBIC via telephone or written correspondence.

The post holder will have a degree in science with administrative/ project management experience and be highly competent in written and verbal communications. Preferably candidates should have some background experience in structural biology. Training will be provided where necessary.

Qualification & Experience - Essential

  • Relevant degree in science (or ability to demonstrate significant relevant experience); and appropriate amount of administrative/project management experience;
  • Ability to interact effectively and diplomatically with staff and facility users at all levels;
  • Strong organisational skills and methodical record keeping;
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Self-motivation;
  • Willingness to help and the ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team;
  • Flexible approach to work; ability to work with occasional weekend and out-of-hours working;
  • Good IT skills, including MS Office Suite;
  • Knowledge of organisational practices;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 

Essential for Senior role:

  • Postgraduate degree in science;
  • Knowledge of budgeting and accounting principles;
  • Experience of project management.

  • Experience in working within a scientific or academic environment;
