I studied Physics Engineering at Politecnico di Milano (Milano, Italy), where I earned a bachelor’s degree followed by a master’s degree. Both of them consisted mainly of solid state physics classes, with a particular focus on semiconductors (for electronics and photonics application) and magnetic nanostructures. My first experience in research was at the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (Grenoble, France), where I spent 10 months working as a trainee for my master thesis project.

A joint PhD studentship between eBIC@Diamond Light Source and University of York is available to develop new methods to automatically assess the quality and resolution of cryo-EM reconstructions. With high-throughput cryoEM data collection, an automated method for evaluating EM reconstructions would enable the objective evaluation of instrumentation and data collection practices, and provide instant feedback to the user and guidance for further stages of automated data collection and processing. The new methods will be implemented in the eBIC on-the-fly processing pipeline and contributed to the CCP-EM software suite for distribution to broader user community.
