Job Description

  • To work on the assembly, testing and commissioning of the Diamond Accelerators Front Ends and Insertion Devices;
  • Responsible for looking after a workshop or lab;
  • To work according to the quality assurance procedures of Diamond Light Source;
  • To carry out inspection and acceptance testing of components and subsystems;
  • Suitably trained in pipe fitting to Swagelok qualification;
  • Competent machinist capable of carrying out modifications to and production of, components using manual and CNC machines;
  • To act as Competent Person for lifting operations when trained and registered;
  • To be a competent tug and trailer driver when trained and registered;
  • To be a competent forklift truck driver when trained and registered;
  • Outsourcing of jobs as needed to local suppliers to meet timescales at competitive prices;
  • To undertake other related duties to meet the needs of Diamond Engineering Group.

Qualification & Experience - Essential

  • Obtained a minimum of ONC qualification, although equivalent on-the-job experience will also be considered;
  • The applicant should have served a recognised Apprenticeship in mechanical engineering;
  • Using standard and CNC machine tools;
  • Computer literate;
  • Reading machining and assembly drawings;
  • Mechanical assembly experience;
  • Technical competency in CNC turning and milling and related assembly/fitting work;
  • Familiar with safe working practices;
  • Relevant experience in a similar role;
  • CNC and conventional workshop equipment;
  • Mechanical assembly and installation;
  • Self motivated;
  • Team player with good communication skills;
  • Prepared to learn new skills.

Qualification & Experience - Desirable

  • HNC qualification
  • Small bore pipework installation;
  • Making simple manufacturing sketches;
  • Electrical assembly/cabling experience;
  • Using Autosketch or equivalent;
  • Familiar with the use of quality assurance procedures.
