Job Description

This role is a member of the team which is responsible for the installation, operation and maintenance of the Diamond Mechanical Building Services Infrastructure.

The key duties of the post are as follows:

  • Technical evaluation and understanding of proposed modifications/improvements to existing systems including technical report production;
  • Specification generation and tender analysis of medium sized installation contracts (up to £800k/yr) including pre tender and post contract Project Management (up to £250k), planning, cost control, payment certification, witnessing of tests, etc. including close liaison with Procurement department;
  • Problem solving and fault diagnosis on all site mechanical services, including air conditioning, chilled water, process cooling water, hot and cold water systems, MTHW/LTHW systems, compressed air, refrigeration, drainage, industrial gases, associated control systems, etc.;
  • Liaison and supervision of external consultants, contractors, service engineers and suppliers.  This includes supervision of “design and build” contracts;
  • Commissioning management/supervision for small to medium sized projects to ensure compliance to relevant building services codes of practice;
  • The development of building services operational systems and advising senior management of advantageous/disadvantageous for relevant proposals;
  • To keep up to date records of all QA documentation;
  • To operate the Change Control Procedures for all mechanical installations;
  • To carry out safety risk assessments and prepare method statements;
  • Participation in Health and Safety and Quality Assurance procedures as appropriate to the post;
  • To undertake other related duties to meet the needs of the Installation and Facilities Management Group.

Qualification & Experience - Essential

  • Minimum of HNC qualification in Building Services Engineering. Applicants with relevant or equivalent on-the job experience will also be considered;
  • Computer literate;
  • Good problem solving skills;
  • Ability to work on own initiative;
  • Work planning and organisational skills;
  • Good communication skills: verbal/written;
  • Able to organise and prioritise tasks to meet project timescales (Project planning);
  • Experience with HVAC systems;
  • Experience with MTHW, LTHW, Chilled/ Process Cooling Water, Compressed Air, drainage and Domestic Water systems;
  • Knowledge of PSSR2000 Regulations;
  • Preparation of technical reports/ specifications;
  • Management of  mechanical installation contracts;
  • Experience of H&S legislation;
  • Relevant work experience in similar role/s;
  • Effective team worker;
  • Flexible approach to the working conditions and environment;
  • Self-motivated.

  • Supervision of other staff;
  • Energy Management;
  • Commissioning Management;
  • Working knowledge of HVAC control systems;
  • Familiarity with using Quality Control Systems, Work Planning and Safe Systems of work;
  • Proven record of supervising other people.
  • Prepared to learn new skills;
  • Able to get on with people at all levels.
