Job Description

As a member of the Installation & Facilities Management group, this role is responsible for the installation and maintenance of the Diamond mechanical building services infrastructure.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • The specification and/or supervision of procurement and installation contracts including witnessing of tests;
  • Monitoring and testing duties, as required by the Statutory Authorities;
  • The supervision and assistance with operation and maintenance of the mechanical facilities systems;
  • Problem solving and fault diagnosis on all site mechanical services, including air conditioning, piped gases, hot and cold water systems, MTHW/LTHW systems, chilled water, refrigeration, centrifugal and multi stage pumps & liquid nitrogen;
  • Liaison and supervision of external contractors, service engineers and suppliers; 
  • To keep up to date records of all QA documentation;
  • To operate the Change Control Procedures for all mechanical facilities;
  • To supervise a small team of mechanical technicians, including work programming;
  • To carry out risk assessments and method statements;
  • To undertake the role of “deputy responsible person” (HSE ACOP L8 legionella control) for the mechanical facilities systems;
  • To undertake lead role in collating all information for the mechanical facilities infrastructure, in order to brief PSSR 2000 Competent Person and host the associated working and thorough inspections;
  • Participation in Health and Safety and Quality Assurance procedures as appropriate to the post;
  • To undertake other related duties to meet the needs of the IFM Group.

  • May involve 'being on call' during commissioning and operation.

Qualification & Experience - Essential

  • Minimum of ONC qualification in Building Services Engineering. Applicants with relevant or equivalent on-the job experience will also be considered;
  • Computer literate;
  • Good problem solving skills;
  • Ability to work on own initiative;
  • Work planning and organisational skills;
  • Good communication skills: verbal/written;
  • Supervision of other staff;
  • Able to organise and prioritise tasks to meet project timescales (Project planning);
  • Experience with HVAC systems;
  • Experience with MTHW, LTHW, chilled Water, compressed air and domestic water;
  • Work Planning and Safe Systems of work;
  • Experience of HSE legislation;
  • Effective team worker;
  • Flexible approach to the working conditions and environment;
  • Self-motivated;
  • Able to get on with people at all levels.

Qualification & Experience - Desirable

  • The Applicant should have served a recognised Apprenticeship in an Engineering discipline;
  • Working knowledge of HVAC control systems;
  • Familiarity with using Quality Control Systems;
  • Proven record of supervising other people;
  • Experience of CDM legislation;
  • Specifying and placing of mechanical services installation contracts;
  • Extensive experience in a building services engineering environment;
  • Prepared to learn new skills.
