Diamond’s accelerators contain over 1200 magnet power supplies of various types including DC, cycling and pulsed systems. High stability, reproducibility and reliability are essential for these systems which are critical to the operation of the facility. Diamond is now seeking staff to work in the Power Supply Group at various possible grades.

More senior roles require line management experience, as well as experience of project and contract management. For junior roles you will require experience of electrical/electronic system maintenance, including stock control of spares, procuring parts, electronic fault finding and repair, calibration of test equipment, supervision of electrical installation work, assembly of circuit boards and prototype wiring.

In these roles you will manage power supply projects that are required to meet the evolving requirements of the accelerators. This will involve you in the design, modification and development of power supplies and/or managing design and manufacture contracts with industry.  You will undertake EMC testing of power supplies and manage safety procedures as part of measurement and fault finding on them. More senior roles require that you play a key role in planning activities and analysing fault statistics to identify power supply enhancements that will improve reliability. They will also include line management responsibilities.

All members of the Power Supply Group will be part of an on-call team that responds to any power supply faults during accelerator operation.
