Current Research Interests

My interests include X-ray spectroscopy, X-ray tomography used with a variety of techniques such as X-ray Absorption, Fluorescence, XANES and X-ray Phase Contrast, X-ray diffraction .  My previous synchrotron experience include working at Stanford Synchrotron Radiation  Laboratory (SSRL) and Advanced Photon Source (APS).  I currently collaborate on several projects with teams in England and abroad. One of the projects is the application of X-ray phase contrast imaging methods in medical diagnostic and security.  Another project that I have recently joined is involved is the collaboration with scientist from Cambridge University on multi-modal imaging of phosphorus in plants which will include electron microscopy imaging as well as XRF and XANES at cryogenic temperatures.  This project will start up based on the outcome of the grant application.

Konstantin Ignatyev is a Beamline Scientist on the Microfocus Spectroscopy beamline I18.  He joined Diamond in April 2012 from UCL where he worked on developing X-ray phase contrast imaging techniques.  His experience with synchrotron radiation began in 1998 as a user at SSRL, to which he later returned as a post-doc, and after that working at APS.

His first degree is from St.Petersburg Electrotechnical University (LETI).  He received a PhD in Materials Science and Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta working with Stuart Stock, with some work done in Chicago at Northwestern University in the last years of his PhD.
